Volunteer teaxher needed.
Hi everyone! I'm just going to put this up here to see if anyone is interested. I've been voluntarily teaching English to a group of women and men (mostly from South and Central America) in challenging living situations here in Madrid for the last 2 years but I can't continue with them this year as I'm moving country later this year so I'm looking for another teacher to replace me. I've been teaching the "advanced" group who have quite mixed levels but the average would be a B1 level - some with a higher level, some lower (they've been together for a long time and don't want to change class). I had 10 students in my class last year and attendance was generally good and the class is unlikely to be any bigger this year. They're an incredibly lovely group of people (not exaggerating but you won't find nicer people) and though they're all very motivated to learn, they're all very busy with their jobs (they mostly work as internas/os) during the week, so don't have much opportunity to study, though a few do manage. The class is mostly a time for them to get together and take a break from the stresses and strains of their lives and have a laugh and they also provide incredible support for each other. I found it extremely rewarding and am really sad I have to give it up. It's for an hour and a half a week on Sunday evening (17 - 18.30) so you have to be committed. If you can't make it to a class, you have to find someone who can substitute as they don't have enough teachers who can cover for you. It's held in a kind of community centre owned by a church close to Cuatro Caminos though it doesn't have much interaction with the church itself. They get together and sing a few Christmas carols in the church around xmas but that's about the height of it - you're not required to be religious (I'm personally not). They'll be starting back in the first week of September so I need to help them find someone before then. If you're interested, please send me a PM and I can answer any questions you have. Thanks for reading this! Email me if you've any questions.
