As far as teaching itself is concerned, I think that too often many teachers suffer from academic amnesia; they forget what it is like to be a student.  I have many memories of the traditional teacher who would come to class to give a sermon in which he or she was the sole protagonist while the students were just passive recipients.  

Many of us are indeed causalities of an outdated education system that destroys creativity, instills fear in students and praises obedience over thinking.   Asking questions is frowned upon. We learn that making mistakes is somehow wrong and can result in punishment and disappointment from teachers and parents alike.  

However, I believe in an education system based on collaboration and participation from everyone in the classroom.  It’s not about the teacher talking and students taking notes but rather about making learning relative to people.
