American looking for non-EU advice about moving to Madrid

I'm an American and a recent college graduate. I'm trying to find a way to move to Madrid so I can be closer to my girlfriend who lives in the city, but am finding it difficult to work out the best way to do this. I'm wondering if some other American/non-EU citizen who live and works in Madrid would be willing to chat with me so I could pick your brain about how you got to the country, found work, and got your papers. I can't express in words how much I would appreciate any advice or guidance someone could offer me on this subject.
